Generators break down for predictable reasons — and almost all of them are preventable. We service our rental fleet constantly, and the same issues keep showing up: clogged filters, low coolant, dead batteries. If you're renting or owning generators in Dubai, a basic routine saves you thousands in emergency repairs.
Daily Maintenance Checks
Before you start the unit each day, take five minutes:
- Check oil and coolant — low coolant in 45°C heat means you're cooking the engine
- Look at the fuel level and check the filter for water or sediment
- Check battery terminals — corrosion builds up fast in humidity
- Glance at the control panel. Any warning lights? Sort them now, not later
Weekly Maintenance Schedule
Once a week, go a bit deeper:
- Pull and clean the air filter — UAE dust clogs them faster than you'd expect
- Walk around and check underneath for oil or coolant leaks
- Test the ATS (automatic transfer switch) to make sure switchover actually works
- Run the generator under load for at least 30 minutes to prevent wet stacking
Annual Inspections
Once a year, get a qualified technician to do a proper teardown inspection — injectors, alternator windings, belts, hoses, the lot. This is where you catch problems before they turn into a seized engine or a burned-out alternator.
