We get this question every week: "What size generator do I need?" The answer depends on what you're powering, where the site is, and how long the project runs. Here's a straight breakdown of your options.
Diesel Generators
Diesel is still the default for heavy construction. Use them when you need:
- Continuous power for tools, welders, and site lighting
- 150+ KVA for large sites with multiple loads
- A machine that can run 12-16 hours a day without issues
- Backup power for critical systems like site MEP controls
Silent Generators
Silent types are the same diesel engine in a sound-dampened enclosure. You'll want one for:
- Residential areas — Dubai Municipality will shut you down otherwise
- Events, exhibitions, and outdoor gatherings
- Night shifts where noise complaints are a real risk
- Hospital, hotel, or school-adjacent projects
Portable Generators
Small, easy to move, and good enough for a few power tools or a site office. Don't try to run a full site off one — they're for supplemental power in tight spots or remote locations where dragging a 500 KVA unit doesn't make sense.
